One question: when you speak of a "radioactive explosion", I am assuming this would be a "dirty bomb" type event (conventional explosion that scatters radioactive debris) as opposed to a classic nuclear bomb event. The differences are significant, and this is not to take anything away from the DNFSB findings. It is just that the explosions are different by orders of magnitude and a clarification might be useful.

Los Alamos has had its share of issues with lax security and now this. Being the best lab in the country does not excuse the management of the lab from basic duties such as proper security and housekeeping, even if the tasks are dull. Certainly, "stimulus" money for bike paths or a swamp mouse in CA would be better spent on improving systems for Los Alamos. Or so I think.

Sen. Max Baucus has earmarked $30M of stimulus money to improve a border crossing into Canada in his state. This crossing is used by an average of...hold still...22 people a day.

If it were my money I would spend it on Los Alamos. Wait...it is my money...and yours!. Anybody want to call Mr. Baucus? How about urging Bingaman and Udall talk with him?
