Gary Johnson to KUNM: “Marijuana is not a dangerous drug”

By Alexa on November 19th, 2009

gjohnsonOn my journey to work this morning, the dreamy, familiar voice of Steve Inskeep was replaced by another, almost-as-familiar one: that of former New Mexico Gov Gary Johnson. He was talking to KUNM’s Arcie Chapa about legalizing marijuana, among other things. A couple of pithy quotes from Johnson:

“Ninety percent of the drug problem is prohibition-related, not use-related.”

“All of the thousands, if not millions of entrepreneurs, business people, doctors, lawyers and scientists who would move to New Mexico [if] marijuana was legal…maybe that wouldn’t be such a bad thing!”

And no, I was not reporting while driving. You can access the KUNM archive here; set your times for 8am – 9am today to hear Johnson. Oh, and…don’t forget: If you’re bored with Obama-ism, you could join the 1,848 Facebookers who plan to elect this guy for president.

    According to http://www.garyjohnson2012.com
-He didn’t raise taxes as Governor once.
-He vetoed over 1,000 spending items.
    -He cut taxes 14 times.
-In a state dominated 2 to 1 by Democrats he served two terms.
-He left New Mexico with a balanced budget.
-He competed in the Bataan Death March, a 25 mile desert run in combat boots wearing a 35-pound backpack.
-He climbed to the top of Mount Everest, despite a broken leg.

We need someone like him in DC to show them how the veto pen works.

Having hard time finding audio, was it an interview with Gary for a whole hour, or just part of a news piece?

This was on Arcie Chapa’s morning show. You’d have to go the archive for audio http://kunm.org/listen/archive/

And then select Nov 19 and, I believe, the 8 to 9 am slot.
