In this week’s paper, SFR looked at some recent code complaints that have come in to the city and county bureaucracies.
There were a few that we didn’t have room for on the page, but which deserve a look regardless.
The first concerns Advantage Asphalt, a company that is under investigation by the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s office in a convoluted money-and-influence scheme reportedly involving several local politicians, including state House Speaker Ben Luján, Santa Fe City Councilor Matt Ortiz and County Development Review Committee chairman Jon Paul Romero.

The new Republican gubernatorial nominee, Susana Martinez, proved to be slightly more popular among relatively moderate Santa Fe County GOP voters than she was statewide. That could be interpreted as a demonstration of her supposed crossover appeal—a description that seems to have stuck, her right-wing issue positions and endorsement from Sarah Palin notwithstanding.

In the end, it wasn’t even close. After a 43-percentage point defeat by Farmington Republican Tom Mullins, Santa Fe’s Adam Kokesh is blaming his loss, in part, on the “corrupt” Republican Party leadership that embraced his more traditional opponent.
It likely had as much to do with Kokesh’s unorthodox positions and campaign organization—which was evidently stronger online than it was on the ground. As late as election eve, the Kokesh campaign was advertising for paid sign-wavers on Craigslist, suggesting a dearth of volunteers.

This strange campaign mailer urges Democratic primary voters to “keep” a slate of appointed judges to the 1st Judicial District Court.
What’s strange about it?
Aside from its endorsement of multiple candidates and somewhat misleading emphasis on their incumbency—only Sheri Raphaelson has been appointed to the bench for more than a few months—there is the matter of the flyer’s provenance.
