SFR’s Zozobra Adventures

By Charlotte Jusinski on September 16th, 2009

For the first time in the history of the world, ever, SFR had its own documentary photographer available to capture the Zozobra action.

No, we’re not talking about the Wall Street Journal (though that slideshow is awesome; photo number nine features Yours Truly, looking awfully majestic traveling at the speed of gloom); we’re not talking about the video from Channel 7 news (stay tuned for 1:05); we’re not talking about the LA Times (not as cool as the WSJ article); we’re not talking about Rob Wilder, who took a shitload of pictures as we ran pell-mell up to the feet of Zozobra with thousands of glooms in hand.

No, we’re talking about my very own ma, Bernadette Jusinski (who features prominently in that Channel 7 news clip), who came from New Jersey to her first Zozobra and promptly became not only our newsy spokeswoman, but who took the most pictures ever taken at the gloom tent, ever.

Have fun seeing Zozo from an SFR point of view!

Eyedropper: Celebrity Mimes: They’re Just Like Us!

By Rani Molla on September 14th, 2009

We’ve got the dirt on the mime prominently featured in the slide shows of both the Wall Street Journal and LA Times articles about our city’s pagan-esque a-religious yearly event, Zozobra: Even though he’s famous, he’s just like us!

When it rains, he wears a jacket (although he only mimes wearing a jacket and thus still gets wet).

And when he’s hungry and on the go, he eats whatever he can, like these soggy Sun Chips (although he only mimes eating Sun Chips and is thus still hungry. In fact, he mimes everything he eats, which explains his sallow and sunken-in features).

What will the Zozo mime do next? Perhaps a job and a girlfriend are on the horizon (check photo No. 3)…

Show us what has left the back of your eyelids burning. Send pictures
of visual trespass and peculiarities to copyeditor [at] sfreporter.com,
subject “eyedropper.” Thanks to Charlotte Jusinski for catching the celeb in action.
